Bitter Politics: Nigerian Story

By Oladotun O. Fadeyiye

It is no news that Nigeria’s democracy is not only at nascent level but also having undiagnosed teething troubles. Nigerians can only be optimistic as to what may happen next as regards to the survivability of democratic governance in the country. It is quite appalling that Nigerian political system is replete of charlatans and men who ventured into politics primarily to protect their own selfish interests and forget that of electorates who stood under the sun to cast their votes for them.
At present, politics in Nigeria could be described as “Bitter Politics” that is what I would call it. Well, I do not know, what other Nigerians might call it but with the frequent murder cases recorded, kidnapping and abduction, brawling and scuffles amongst the Senators in the Senate and House of Assembly in the last couple of months would make anyone to use careless word to describe Nigerian politics.
Moreso, I am not a pessimistic person as a matter of fact I am as optimistic as every other dogged Nigerians, who believe that some day Nigeria will assume it pride of place in the comity of nations but when things are not being done the right way, then one need to learn to call “a spade, a spade”.
I never planned to do this blog, Infact my regular job has taken much of my time in the last couple weeks that I was unable to update my blog site but the sad news of tragic death Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Haruna Tsokwa who was said to have slumped at his residence and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Jalingo where he breathed his last breath last week Monday and the subsequent attacks after his death made me come up with this blog. Before Tsokwa’s death, he had been attacked severally by gunmen which he survived but lost a policeman with his other entourage sustained bullet wounds. Not even up to a week after his death his deputy became the next target of this politically motivated killing but this time it was deputy speaker’s wife, Hajia that was shot severally instead of the targeted deputy and she has been in critical condition since yesterday.
The question is who behind these satanic activities in the state? We all know these occurrences are motivated by some faceless cabals. That is just the ‘Bitter’ part of Nigerian politics.

We all pray that democracy survives in Nigeria.

God Bless Naija!
